If you belong to Christ you have the Holy Spirit.
[Romans 8:9 You, however, are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if in fact the Spirit of God dwells in you. Anyone who does not have the Spirit of Christ does not belong to him. 10 But if Christ is in you, although the body is dead because of sin, the Spirit is life because of righteousness. 11 If the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, he who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through his Spirit who dwells in you.]
The Holy Spirit is called the Spirit, the Spirit of God, and the Spirit of Christ in this passage. He is in each Christian. What kind of power does the Spirit have? The power to raise Jesus from the dead! (vs.11)
We have the same distinction between Spirit and flesh as in previous verses. The Spirit is life. The body is dead. The body or flesh is the name for the old way of life of sin. We return to that way of life as a Christian when we sin. When we serve God we live in the Spirit.
Though our bodies are sinful and will die, they will be restored. (11) Jesus Christ’s body resurrected and so will ours.
Choose to live by the Spirit! God has provided this helper to live the life of good deeds that we could have never lived under the power of sin.
Don’t lose heart! Though we live with the frustration of sin and with the difficulties of a dying body, we can be hopeful that after we die our sin will be taken away completely and our new bodies will live forever.
